The best of both worlds when it comes to Sci-Fi. Especially if you are a kid like I was back when Land of the Lost was on TV. I just bought the first season on iTunes and I am amazed at the quality storytelling amidst the cheesy dude in suit Sleestacks and rubber dinosaurs. I grew up on this show and it's been a long long time since I've actually sat down and watched it. Gawd, I didn't realize until I saw his name on the credits that Larry Niven wrote for them. It shows. Ok, the acting is a little cardboard but the interesting thing about the characters is that Dad is an amazing renaissance man explorer with his kids along for the ride. I find it interesting listening to just what he is saying to his kids through this show. Kids Holly and Will seem to be all raw emotion ADD poster children and they can't seem to even be capable of even getting water without getting distracted and into trouble. It's amazing what you miss when you are a kid and can pick up when you grow up. This show is an amazing dreamland of time portals and pylons, it's of seeing the back of your head through a telescope while standing on a mountain top looking to the next mountain. I don't think there is any way they can properly re-envision this show today. At least, not with the current paradigm of corporate movie making with their formulaic storytelling and pc sculpting of idea and attitude. I want to see the movie, but at the same time, I really am a little disturbed by the comic rendition they have portrayed it. The visual effects from the previews look wonderful, and I've read a few reviews. But damn, don't mess with my childhood ideal sci-fi show.
